Help us overturn president Bush's veto of health care for millions of poor children...

Bush VetoOn October 3rd with little fanfare, President Bush vetoed a bill passed by Congress with broad bi-partisan support that provided health care for millions of this nations poor kids. This program (called SCHIP) was widely praised by medical groups, insurance companies, business and clergy.

Even politically conservative Senators such as Sen. Orin Hatch and Sen. Chuck Grassley championed it, helping craft the compromise language that passed Congress with a healthy majority. The program was fully funded from cigarette taxes, and would add no burden to the budget deficit.

It is NOT "government run" health care.

good newsThe good news is that the US Senate now has enough votes to override the President's veto, and the battle moves over to the House of Representatives.

A number of religious, political, medical and child advocacy groups are pushing to override the Bush veto, and the House override vote is scheduled for October 18th.

It is viewed that less than 15 Republicans need to change their votes and stand with our children and not with President Bush.

But here is where you come in....

Below are key Republican members to target. We'll update this list as we approach October 18th...Especially if you live in these districts, make your voice heard.

Democrats who Voted Against SCHIP

There were 8 votes against, and recnetly but recently it was announced that "Rep. James Clyburn, the House Democratic whip from South Carolina who rounds up party members on key votes, said he already has commitments to support the override from four of the eight Democrats who had voted no."

My digging online leads me to think that these are the hold outs...
